Micheladas ~ beer, clamato, lime, and tabasco make this a fizzy, light summer beverage. | fourtocookfor.com

I can’t believe I haven’t stumbled across Micheladas, a summertime beverage, sooner.  Even my husband knew about them before me, thanks to a few San Francisco 49er tailgates.

I think the Michelada might be the perfect summertime drink, and here’s why: they are light and refreshing. Take beer, cut it with clamato, and add a generous amount of of lime juice. A squirt of Worcestershire, Tabasco, and Maggi seasoning make for a delicious, tangy drink with an umami flavor.

Special Ingredients

  • Beer
  • Clamato tomato juice
  • Lime juice
  • Worcestershire
  • Tabasco
  • Maggi

But wait! You aren’t done yet. Last step…rim the glasses with a bit of Tajín, which is a blend of lime crystals, chili, and salt, and serve over ice.

Equipment

  • 2-quart pitcher

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces bottled Clamato, chilled
  • 36 ounces Mexican beer about 3 bottles
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice about 4 limes
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco
  • 1 teaspoon Maggi Seasoning
  • Tajín for rimming the glasses
  • Lime wedges for serving about 2 limes

Instructions

  • Mix ingredients in a large pitcher.
  • Pour a little Tajín on a plate.
  • Moisten the rim of a glass with a lime and dip in the Tajín.
  • Fill glass with ice, pour in michelada drink, and serve.

Notes

I used about six limes to ensure there was enough juice and enough leftover for wedges. I needed to use a hand pulper to get all the juice out. These were not old limes, so be sure you have plenty on hand in case your batch is not that juicy.
