watermelon agua fresca

Watermelon Agua Fresca just might be the original spa water. Literally, it means “cool water” but for all practical purposes it might as well be translated into “a-wonderful-break-from-boring-water-that-is-refreshing-and-delicious.”  And it is so easy to make!

Start with the watermelon that your mom brought to your pool party that you forgot to serve.

Then, cut it into chunks and put it in a blender. Add freshly squeezed lime juice, a little water, a little sugar, maybe a few leaves of basil (or more if you like basil). Blend and store in the fridge for an hour.

When ready to serve, blend in about a cup of ice and serve.

The result is a frothy, light, refreshing drink that is utterly delicious.

Underscore delicious.

I served this drink for Sunday dinner, and it stretched to five perfect half-pint mason jars with a little ice added. It makes about a pitcher.

This was such a refreshing treat! We had it with our Green Chile, beans and tortilla dinner last night. Delicious way to cool down the palate!
